Merry Christmas to everyone and I hope 2010 is a good one for us all.

I have to admit I’ve been thinking a bit this Christmas, I kept hearing people say they didn’t feel ‘christmasy’ and I kinda know what they mean, it has felt different this year. The whole Christmas thing has actually felt a lot less commercialised than it has in a long time. Perhaps people haven’t felt ‘christmasy’ because we are so used to taking our cues from the media and the retailers and when they stop telling us what to do we become lost and confused.

Or maybe I’m just a cynic.

One of my favourite anime series of all time has to be Cowboy Bebop, if you haven’t seen it you should, it must be over 10 years old and still holds up as one of the finest examples of the anime genre, great characters, stories, plot, it has everything. It’s that highly regarded a live action movie is in production starring Keanu Reeves as the main character Spike Spiegel.

Every now and then you hear a story that sticks with you, and this one from the final episode stuck with me.

There once was a tiger striped cat. This cat died a million deaths, revived and lived a million lives, and he was owned by various people who he didn’t really care for. The cat wasn’t afraid to die. One day the cat became a stray cat, which meant he was free. He met a white female cat, and the two of them spent their days together happily. Well, years passed, and the white cat grew weak and died of old age. The tiger striped cat cried a million times, and then died too. Except this time, he didn’t come back to life.

I guess I’m just an old romantic at heart.

I have to say that I have a family I love very much, a niece and nephew I adore, and I hope everyone has a great family and keeps them close. If I could make one wish to come true right now it would be that I always have my family and friends close to me.

If you have family and friends and you care anything for them, spend a moment to think about them and how much they mean to you, I’m sure they’re worth it.
