While I don’t normally care about politics events this year have led me to take an interest, first it was our leaders handling of the ‘global financial crisis’ and more recently the whole ministers expenses fiasco. I don’t follow to much but it appears to me our politicians are hoping that the appointment of the new speaker of the house of commons will in some way bring things back into some semblance of order.
And how do they plan to do it? By drawing a shortlist of possible candidates most if not all of whom have themselves been claiming daft expenses at our expense. Great idea, I can see the logic behind it. Take the recent elections, Labour got absolutely destroyed, Conservatives won just about everything, but not on merit, and anyone who thinks so is mistaken, they won purely because people didn’t want to vote Labour and they were the next best alternative.
Overall the sooner all these idiot politicians wake up and remember just who pays their wages and just who they work for the better.
I don’t think anybody needs any examples of how clueless politicians are, they all seem to live in their own little world and I doubt if more than 1 in 100 of them actually truly represent their constituents they way they really should, but this made me laugh.
It’s about the British governments proposals for a new digital Britain, in particular it’s this bit that made me chuckle:
As for broadband access – well, the government wants all homes to have “superfast” access by 2012. By “superfast” they mean 2Mbps
Now don’t get me wrong, if the government is going to ensure that every household has access to broadband internet that’s good, but 2mb is 5 years old, nobody has talked about that as a broadband speed since the days before youtube.
And this is the point I’m making, our politicians have no idea, they put forward these daft schemes and take so long to finally get the ball rolling that the world has changed around them. And these are the people we appoint to lead us?
Normally I avoid politics but having sat through one of those godawful party political broadcasts earlier I have to wonder if anyone is actually going to bother even voting this year. In fact I am predicting a record all-time low voter turnout at any elections this year.
Not only have our elected officials led us into a terrible recession, making it worse by having little or no money in the bank for this rainy day, they’ve made it worse with highly unpopular bank bail-outs and despite all their big talk and pompous speeches we all know nothing will change.
But what about the other guys, well the other big party have been caught up in this expenses scandal and are resigning left right and center. So who is left? nothing but a bunch of parties nobody cares enough about to vote for.
So at all elections this year I shall be registering a protest vote by taking my voting slip and writing across it “I’m not voting for any of you because you’re all bloody useless.
